Learn how to embrace your inner creativity with this quilt course that will be unlike any you’ve ever experienced before.

I once was too! But I decided to embrace my inner wonky way of working, and do away with the idea of perfection I was being held back by, and doing the work anyway!
Since then, the quilts I’ve made are works of art, expressing my own story in textiles, while also being a usable heirloom.
I will give you the skills, but more importantly the courage, to create a quilt.
Because let’s be honest, a quilt is simply a lot of pieces of fabric sewn together to make something to warm our bodies and our hearts.

- Work with colour and pattern to discover your own visual voice.
- Overcome any barriers - so you can sew this quilt, and embrace the beautiful piece of art that you'll make!
- Make gifts for loved ones that become family heirlooms.
- Create a quilt that speaks of your own story and not a cookie-cutter pattern.
- Learn the joy of playing with your materials, having conversations with your fabric, and seeing where to process evolves.

The slow mindful process of Improv quilting allows you to connect with an inner quiet, that is often missing in today’s fast-paced world.
My way of working with process over perfection means that you’ll be able to see the quilt evolve under your hands and the story to come to life as you continue the conversation with your fabric.

Finally learn how to quilt beyond the edges, lean into your own creativity, and stop feeling the fear of not being quite good enough.
Price increases to $149 on 28th July

"Ellie’s quilt class is absolutely fabulous! It introduced me to new techniques with videos showing her thought process. She walks you through many different processes. The videos and instructions are clear and easy to watch and to incorporate into your current style. She is very generous with her knowledge and I highly recommend this class for anyone looking to begin or expand their knowledge of improv quilting".

inspiration for your work. As well as creating your own quilt journal.
You'll learn how I approach colour, pattern & print in my work. I often create my quilts with my own naturally dyed fabrics, second-hand fabric and small scraps.
The beauty of Fear-Less & improv quilting is that you can use what you already have. You can use up little pieces that you've already stitched on, or thought too small for other projects, or text pieces from your dye pots.

"Ellie is a fearless quilter, actually she's a fearless stitcher, weaver, crocheter and natural dyer too. I have enjoyed the 'Fearless Quilt-making' online course for a couple of years. Ellie encourages me to find my voice and be confident in decisions about fabric, thread, colours, and techniques; from tying a quilter's knot in my thread to sewing on the binding.
The variety of quilts she demonstrates means I am able to revisit sections of the course, and I often sew alongside her. I recommend this course for beginners as well as more experienced quilters, particularly those who follow patterns as this freeform style is liberating!"
“Thank you for the wonderful refreshing inspiration. At this time it is just what I needed to help me feel calm, yet inspired and motivated.
It makes me smile inside and out.
The segments were just long enough, and contained digestible bits, that focused on a specific aspect.
I hope you will continue to share your unique style of art in the same manner. I found myself reviewing and enjoying the segment while I waited for the next one. Thank you again”

I'm a textile artist and creative maker, specialising in working with intuition to create beautiful, special, unique fabric pieces that sing of your own inner whisper.
Once upon a time I looked at blogs sharing quilt patterns and felt scared that I wouldn't be able to make the perfect 1/8" seam allowances they were talking about. So - I stopped myself from making a quilt!
One day I realised that limiting thought meant I wasn't making the usable huggable textile heirlooms I wanted to make. In all my other creative work I just do the thing. Why not with my quilting.
That's when I started my first Fear-Less Quilt. I had the fear, but I allowed courage to be my guide to make the wonky, imperfect "this is me" quilt!
I'm excited to be able to share this with you too.

FOR YOU IF…

- Not wanting to learn about improv quilting, or doing things in a different way.
- Don't like imperfection, problem solving, or trying new things to see what happens.
- Are happy following the current 'modern' quilt patterns that already exist, and don't want to put your own spin on the process of quilt making.
- Think you already know too much to learn anew or again. My courses have challenged people who grew up with certain rules about sewing. They've always enjoyed this process, and been overjoyed by the outcome; but you have to want to do it.

- How do I access the course? My courses are hosted on a site called ThriveCart. You can watch on any device that connects to the internet.
Once you join you'll receive an email from ThriveCart with your login details. You can start watching the course straight away. - Is this for beginners or more advanced? Both actually! I know this sounds like an all-encompassing answer, but this course has been taken by students totally new to quilting as well as very experienced traditional quilters.
My step-by-step process shows you exactly how to make a quilt from the start of choosing fabrics right through to doing your quilt stitching and binding your quilt.
I also share how I make my improv quilts. With follow-along videos watching me make a quilt, going through the decisions of fabric, layout, troubleshooting, and talking through the design process you'll learn how to approach your quilt making in a totally new and unexpected light! - Can I get a refund?Due to the digital nature of my courses and digital downloads I don't offer refunds for change of mind. If you feel that the courses isn't as described then please do contact me to work through this.
I stand by the quality of my courses. I've been teaching online for over 10 years, and have over 7000 very happy students. - What materials and tools might I needIf you're already a quilter then you'll have everything you need.
If you're already a sewer, stitcher, textile crafter you probably already have most of what you need.
You can hand or machine sew these quilts - it's entirely up to how you like to work. I do a combination of both.
Briefly, you'll need: Lots of different fabric, hand sewing and embroidery needles, fine sewing machine thread, Sashiko, Perle or embroidery thread, scissors, pins, an iron. quilt wadding. - How long can I watch the course for? What does lifetime access mean?Basically as long as I have my courses available online, then you can watch them. Lifetime access means for the 'lifetime' of the course (not you, or me, or the internet). If I ever retire any of my courses I'll give you ample notice so you can download the content onto your device to continue access.
I've been selling my Fear-Less quilt course for about 8 or so years, and don't see it going anywhere soon. - What currency are your courses in?I sell all my courses in Australian dollars. GST is included in the price that you see.
I have a conversion for US$ and UK£ on the course page. Please note that this is only approx. and your bank may change a different rate. This is not determined by me. Your bank or Paypal will automatically do the conversion for you. - I see you're Australian - what measurements do you use?Yes, I am Australian. I use both imperial and metric measurements in my courses. As the metric system is my native measurement language that's often my starting point, but I always put the imperial conversion anytime I'm talking about measurements, dimensions, or fabric weights.
My conversions might not be 100% accurate, so please do feel free to double-check for yourself. But as my quilt making process isn't about perfection, it truly does not matter if you're out by 1/2 an inch or so. - I have another question? Please contact me directly ellie@petalplum.com.au and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
